This is a kind of technology, quality, and portability that cannot be seen in any other camera.
Cinema Camera 6K Shoot as a digital film to achieve the “Hollywood Look
Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, first, the professional features needed for feature films, television programming, and documentaries, but the very same characteristics can now be used to produce cinematic content for social media, YouTube videos, and much more, all yours-thus the possibility of better colors, more image detail, and dynamic range between the brightest highlights and the deep shadow. That is why feature films look so amazing,, and now you can achieve the same high-end production values for any kind of work. Just imagine shooting with large-format digital film on low-budget independent films, TV commercials, or even corporate video.
Cinema Camera 6K Provides Large Format Cinematic Digital Film Sensor
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K boasts a large, full-frame sensor with a native resolution of 6048 x 4032. That’s almost three times bigger than a Super 35 sensor, and you can shoot with a very shallow depth of field or use anamorphic lenses without any cropping for a very cinematic look. Whether shooting in high brightness or near zero light, the dynamic range has 13 stops of dynamic range with a dual native ISO of up to 25,600?it delivers breathtakingly clean images in whatever lighting scenario. And it allows you to shoot up to 36 fps at full sensor resolution or 120 fps windowed. This fantastic sensor combined with Blackmagic color science brings you the same imaging technology as expensive digital cinema cameras.
Full Frame Flexibility for Cinema Camera 6K
The large full-frame sensor of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K allows you to shoot in various film formats and aspect ratios, straight from the camera without quality compromise. Shooting the full area of the sensor gives you a unique open gate 3:2 image, and it allows for reframe shots in post-production. A large sensor also allows you to shoot in true 6:5 anamorphic without cropping and widen the scope of cinematic images for higher resolution and details than ever before. You can even use the classic Super 35-sized window on the sensor to make an instant ‘close-up’ version of your shot that will fit seamlessly with open-gate footage. All this enables the production of unique, high-quality content.
Next Generation L-Mount
There is an L-Mount on the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, which is a new advanced lens mount that was designed to allow for full-frame sensors but still offers compatibility with new and older lenses. It boasts a large diameter of 51.6mm and matches up with the latest full-frame lenses that are coming out from companies like Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma. Plus, a flange distance of just 20mm allows adapters for a multitude of lens mounts to be installed without affecting image quality. Just imagine using contemporary high-speed lenses for sharp, precise images in one shoot and then shooting a period drama using old photographic lenses. L-Mount will give you one mount that works with virtually any lens for infinite creative choice.
Cinema Camera 6K Provides Shoot Amazing High Dynamic Range Images
The dynamic range is defined as the difference between the brightest and the darkest elements in an image, measured in stops. Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K does a stunning 13 stops of dynamic range; this only means that it can capture so much more detail in light and dark areas than standard video cameras can. This allows you to exposure-meter for an interior scene such as a cafe and yet still achieve the texture of high outdoor light passing through a window. It also captures many more colors than the standard DCI-P3 colorspace, in which feature films are made. Plus, with the inclusion of DaVinci Resolve Studio, you have total creative control through full exposure adjustment and recovery controls at color grade.
Dual Gain ISO for Exceptional Low Light Performance
In digital film, ISO measures the sensitivity toward light that an image sensor has. Theoretically, this would mean the higher the ISO, the more sensitive it is toward the light, hence allowing you to shoot using ambient light even at night. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K features dual native ISO up to 25,600, meaning it is optimized to minimize the grain or noise in images without losing the full dynamic range of the sensor. When there’s on-set lighting involved in the scene, the ideal native ISO should be 400. The secondary high base ISO is 3200 when shooting in less bright environments. The gain is automatically set while you are setting the ISO, so it is all easy to get great shots when you have little time to set up lights.
Cinema Camera 6K Supports Multiple Resolutions and Frame Rates
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K shoots in all standard resolutions and frame rates, from HD up to DCI 4K and even 6K. And sometimes you’ll want to shoot stills at 24.6 megapixels. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K will film at up to 36 fps at 6048 x 4032 3:2 open gate or 60 fps at 6048 x 2520 2.4:1 and 60 fps at 4096 x 2160 4K DCI. For higher frame rates, you can window the sensor, shooting at up to 100 fps at 2112 x 1184 Super 16. Anamorphic. You can even work in true anamorphic 6:5 at much higher resolutions than other cameras using anamorphic lenses: 4.8K 24 fps at 4832 x 4032. And you can shoot 120 fps in 1080HD. With the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, you’ll always have the right resolution for the job.
Lightweight Carbon Fiber Polycarbonate Composite
The clean design of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K packs an incredible number of high-end digital film features into a miniaturized, handheld design based on the Pocket Cinema Camera platform. The camera is made from lightweight carbon fiber polycarbonate composite and has a multifunction handgrip with all controls for recording, ISO, WB, and shutter angle right at your fingertips. This being an advanced digital film camera, thermal noise in the sensor has been reduced in such a way that allows clean shadows and higher ISOs. Plus, the big 5″ LCD gives the possibility to get perfect focus at 6K resolution. You also get a removable battery door, 4 shockproof microphones, a heavy-duty lens mount, and a built-in speaker.
Multi-Function Grip Fingertip Shooting Controls
The front and top of the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K host record start/stop and still photo buttons, along with dedicated controls for iris, ISO, white balance, and shutter speed. Controls on the top include a main power switch located right next to a row of 3 customizable function buttons.
Back Panel Controls
You can easily move the high frame rate button down below the right thumbrest for fast switching between different shooting speeds. You can zoom into the image with the magnifying glass and access setup menus with a couple of touches, and you can quickly play back shots for review.
Multi-function Grip with Fingertip Controls
The multi-function handgrip boasts an ergonomic design, which lets the ISO, WB, and shutter buttons be located right at your fingertips. Under your index finger is even a scroll wheel for making quick iris adjustments. Other controls go beyond those found on a DSLR, so you won’t have to go hunting through menus on a tiny screen to find a command. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K comes with easily accessible recording and still buttons, positioned exactly where you want them, including user-assignable function keys, enabling buttons for high frame rate, focus zoom, false color, and more.
Cinema Camera 6K Shoot in Vertical Aspect Ratio
With the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K, shoot easily cinematic content for TikTok, YouTube shorts, and more. You just have to turn the camera in the direction of shooting a vertical aspect ratio, 9:16 and 4:5. The on-screen HUD rotates so critical information, like frame rate, shutter angle, and frame guides, are viewable, even when the camera’s turned upside down. You can even switch on frame guides so important details stay in the shot for different aspect ratios. When you import your files into DaVinci Resolve, clips are automatically tagged as vertical so they appear correctly in your timeline. Once you’ve finished your project, uploading it to your channel is a cinch with direct export to TikTok and YouTube.
File Formats for Post Production
Blackmagic Cinema Camera records in Blackmagic RAW to give you control over your detail, exposure, and color at shoot or postproduction. This camera will also record real-time HD H.264 proxies, so you can easily share media around the globe in minutes. Blackmagic RAW is highly optimized, multi-threaded, and works across multiple CPU cores. It also combines work with the GPU to expedite video processing through such protocols as Apple Metal, CUDA, and OpenCL. Your images always retain an unprecedented resolution and quality for color, keying, composition, reframing, stabilization, and tracking in HD, 4K, or 6K. Media files work on all operating systems, but you also can format media cards and disks in HFS+ for Mac and ExFAT for Windows.
Record to CFexpress Cards or External Disks
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K has an integrated CFexpress card recorder, but via a USB-C expansion port, you can record directly to external flash media disks or an SSD. CFexpress media are harder and faster than older media, so ideal for recording full-resolution, 12-bit Blackmagic RAW files. Now just imagine shooting more than an hour of full-resolution 6K images on just one 256GB CFexpress card. Extremely high CFexpress card speed also makes them perfect for directly mounting to your computer, ready to edit directly from, with the included DaVinci Resolve Studio software.
Blackmagic RAW: The quality of RAW and the speed of video
Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary new format designed to capture and preserve the quality of the sensor data from your camera. Blackmagic RAW eliminates quality problems so you get stunning images with incredible detail and color throughout the production pipeline from camera to edit, color, and mastering. It also saves camera settings as metadata so you can set ISO, white balance, and exposure in the camera or override them later while editing, all without any loss of quality. Blackmagic RAW files are also small and fast to use, making them easy to work with. Only Blackmagic RAW gives you the highest quality, smallest files, and fastest performance.
Color Temperature: It informs the camera about how it should interpret the color white and other colors in the image. Instead of baking color values into images, Blackmagic RAW lets you change the temperature during post-production in DaVinci Resolve Studio.
Contrast: You can vary the contrast, or the range of tones in an image, to make different areas of the image stand out. Even though it’s great to get your best take on the set, Blackmagic RAW allows you to vary contrast without any sacrifice of quality when editing and color correcting.
ISO: Changing the ISO sets the camera to a different sensitivity for light. Shots taken just right will involve a combination of ISO, aperture, and shutter speed. Depending on the lights you are shooting with, and exposure settings, you’ll most certainly need to make adjustments to ISO in post.
Tint: Another way you can change the global color balance is by changing the tint. Unlike saturation or midpoint, which can make reds redder or yellows more yellow, adjusting the tint lets you push the colors in different directions.
Saturation: Saturation changes the saturation of the colors in the images. Saturation can be dialed in and out between turning images black and white, or up to outrageous color strength. The saturation setting can create cinematic looks or boost vibrant colors, perfect for lively kids’ shows full of fun.
Exposure: So that your images look good, there must not be too much brightness in them?overexposure or too little of it underexposure. One great thing in Blackmagic RAW is that exposure adjustment is possible in post, so it saves shots that weren’t exposed properly.
Large 5″ LCD Monitor
Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K has a massive bright 5-inch HDR touchscreen, which is designed to make framing easier for you and get accurate focus, however challenging the conditions. Thus, no one wants to carry an additional monitor with it. On-screen overlays, status, and all the record parameters, histograms, focus peaking indicators, levels, frame guides, and much more are presented. You will easily apply 3D LUTs for the monitoring shots with the color and look you desire. The LCD monitor can tilt up to 180 degrees flat and as low as 47 degrees, so you can easily monitor your shot regardless of the position. Adding to this, its HDR display has 1500 nits of brightness, meaning you will always have a perfectly framed shot even under bright sunlight.
Touch screen for speedy setup
Such important information as well as access to camera setup menus is displayed on the large LCD touchscreen. The desires and settings such as frame rate, iris, timecode, shutter angle, white balance, ISO, audio levels, etc can be seen and configured with a single tap of the HUD. The HUD can easily be shown or hidden by simply swiping up or down. So you can also adjust your white balance by touching the WB indicator or change your audio levels by touching the audio meters. Everything is interactive, so you can just touch any item to adjust settings instantly without having to dig through confusing menus; you can also access digital slates for the addition of metadata to any shot.
Powered by Blackmagic OS
You get an intuitive, and user-friendly camera operating system advanced with the latest technology with the Blackmagic OS. Blackmagic OS is an entirely new kind of really modern operating system where all the features of the camera run independently for smoother control, plus the camera powers on virtually instantly. It features the same controls and menus as other Blackmagic Design cameras, so you’ll easily move between cameras on set. The app also uses simple tap and swipe gestures to adjust settings, add metadata, and track the recording status. It gives you full control of advanced camera features such as on-screen focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings, and more.
Generation 5 Color Science
The same generation 5 color science as the high-end URSA Mini Pro 12K, the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K gives you an even greater leap in image quality, with stunning, accurate skin tones and faithful color in every shot. You get a new dynamic 12-bit gamma curve designed to capture more color data in the highlights and shadows, for better-looking images. Color science is also in charge of a part of the heavy processing of Blackmagic RAW images, so the color and dynamic range data coming off the sensor is captured as metadata you can leverage in the post. Therefore, you have images that respond to color grading with a natural, film-like look in post with DaVinci Resolve.
Live sync and Edit Media on DaVinci Resolve while the camera is rolling
Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K also records an HD proxy in H.264 in addition to the camera’s original media. Smaller proxy files can upload to Blackmagic Cloud in seconds, even as the camera’s recording, so that your media is available back at the studio in real-time. The feature of transferring media directly into the DaVinci Resolve media bin as editors are working is revolutionary and has never been possible. Any editor working anywhere in the world will get the shots. If you have multiple cameras, then the new multi-source feature in DaVinci Resolve’s Cut page will show each camera angle in a multiview. Blackmagic Cloud is a revolution in global post-production workflows.
Three Post Production Workflows
1. Record to Internal Storage
You can capture the internal media or an external USB-C flash disk. That will enable you to see all of your clips and let the camera sync your media files to other people around the world.
2. Select and Upload Clips
If you are offline, then when you regain internet access, you can search for media and select which you want to send to Blackmagic Cloud.
3. Live Sync to DaVinci Resolve
Login to Blackmagic Cloud and select a DaVinci Resolve project before you go out and shoot. The recording will upload and sync continuously to all DaVinci users working on that project as you keep rolling.
Optional Viewfinder for Professional Camera Shooting
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K feature has an optional viewfinder, which will enable you to shoot with precision and ease even outside or handheld. 1280×960 color OLED display with proximity sensor, 4-element glass diopter, incredible accuracy via wide -4 to +4 focus adjustment, digital focus chart ensures perfect viewfinder focus, frame guides among critical status information, and much more. It is very accessible to connect to the Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K using the EVF, as it fits on top of the camera using one screw. The viewfinder features a 70-degree swiveling range and includes four types of eyecups for both left and right eyes.
Professional Connections for Custom Rigs
Although very small and light, this Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K has a lot of connections available for audio, monitoring, power, etc. Since this camera allows full-size HDMI monitoring, including HDR support and clean 10-bit output, you can connect an HDMI monitor for direct on-set monitoring of your images, with or without overlays that show critical information and camera status. Further features include mini XLR connections with 48-volt phantom power to attach professional microphones, a 3.5 mm video camera style microphone input, a headphone connection, and a professional locking DC power connector. The USB-C connection allows you to connect and record directly to your media disk.
Load Custom 3D LUTs to Recreate Film Looks
Digital film cameras shoot logarithmic colorspace for protection of the dynamic range, which is fantastic for later post-production, but when files from those cameras are viewed on a monitor, they can look a little flat and washed out. 3D LUTs solve this problem because you can apply a “look” to the monitor so you get an idea of how the finished images will look as you edit. Of course, they can also be recorded into the Blackmagic RAW files to be used further in post-production. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K supports both widely established 17 and 33-point 3D LUT files, but you can work with the provided LUTs, too: Extended Video, Film to Video, Film to Rec. 2020, and so on.
USB-C for External Disks and Ethernet Control
It provides a new and fast USB-C expansion port, which can reach up to 5 GB/s. USB-C is available on most new computers, and even supports power, allowing you to connect your external accessories such as flash drives or high-capacity SSDs for recording ways much longer. Best of all, you’re done shooting once, and just swap the external disk over to your editing computer?right away you can edit and color correct from the same disk?no file copying around. Add a USB-C to Ethernet adapter, and you can control your camera over a network via secure, easy-to-use REST APIs. Heck, you can even copy files off the camera via the network.
Shoot in Multicam with Perfect Sync
Professional cameras come with some professional features, and along with them you also get a timecode input, thus allowing shooting with more than one camera without keeping track of sync. Just plug an external timecode generator like Tentacle Sync into the 3.5mm audio jack, and the camera will automatically detect the timecode and lock the internal generator. Now each camera can start and stop recording, and all shots from all cameras will have the same matched timecode. Imagine shooting a music festival with multiple roaming cameras. Best of all, DaVinci Resolve will automatically find and sync the shots from all cameras so you don’t need to waste time sorting through thousands of shots.
Shoot Still Frames up to 24.6 Megapixels
It can also capture high-resolution still images in addition to shooting video. All you have to do is press the dedicated stills button to take 24.6-megapixel images. Stills are saved as Blackmagic RAW; that’s very high image quality-good quality for making high-resolution, professional prints or for later editing in DaVinci Resolve. Still, photo capture is great for continuity monitoring from shot to shot or for image sharing to gain camera approvals from clients who are not on set.
Localized in 13 Popular Languages
The Blackmagic Cinema Camera was built to handle locations worldwide, with setup by default for use in 13 different languages. Configure your camera to work in English, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Turkish, Chinese, Japanese, or Korean. It’s simple to alternate between other languages so that you can share your camera with other crew when shooting locations around the globe. When you change languages, all on-screen overlays, setup menus, and monitoring information will now appear in the chosen language.
Wireless Bluetooth Camera Remote Control
You may mount the camera at the end of a boom or in some other hard-to-reach location, and you get full control via Bluetooth from up to 30 feet away. You may download the Blackmagic Camera Control app to your iPad or use third-party apps such as Bluetooth+ or tRigger on your iOS and Android devices. There’s even a free developer SDK with sample code available from the Blackmagic Design developer website, so you can create your own remote camera control and digital slate solutions. Imagine building an app that can jam-sync timecode and trigger all cameras to record at the same time. The possibilities are endless.
Power from Batteries, 12V DC, and Recharge via USB
Blackmagic Cinema Camera 6K uses high-capacity NP-F570 batteries. These popular batteries are available in a broad range of capacities and are in use throughout the world. A locking DC power connector means you do not have to lose power in the middle of a shoot. This camera also features an AC plug pack that allows you to power the camera or replenish its energy supply by charging it when the camera is off. A set of international socket adapters for worldwide use is also included. Even the USB-C expansion port can trickle charge the battery, so you can use portable battery packs, mobile phone chargers, or laptops. The optional battery grip lets you add extra batteries to dramatically extend the power of the camera so you can keep shooting all day.
Includes DaVinci Resolve Studio
It will come with a full version of DaVinci Resolve Studio, which is the same professional-level editorial and post-production studio software used by professional studios worldwide for feature films, television shows, commercials, and more. DaVinci Resolve features an entirely new cut page with intelligent editing tools and innovative new features to help you quickly find your footage, edit together, and output. Besides, you will receive DaVinci’s legendary professional editing, advanced color correction, audio post, and visual effects tools, all in one application.
