Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF Digital Cinema Camera (PL Mount)
Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF Camera is a digital film revolution in every aspect. The large format RGBW 36 x 24mm sensor with larger photo-sites for 16 stops of dynamic range. This new-era model also supports interchangeable lens mounts, an assist station with a second 5-inch HDR LCD touchscreen, built-in ND filters, and industry-standard Lemo and Fischer connections. Blackmagic URSA Cine includes an enormous 8TB of removable high-performance media storage built in and also comes with high-speed 10G Ethernet and WiFi for fast media upload and syncing to Blackmagic Cloud.
Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF Camera Provides High-Resolution Large Format Cinematic Sensor
URSA Cine features a revolutionary new sensor designed for incredible quality images at all resolutions, from 4K to a massive 12K. With a larger sensor than the URSA Mini Pro 4.6K and more photo sites, the URSA Mini Pro 12K can capture an astonishing 16 stops of dynamic range. The one-of-a-kind architecture of RGBW gives it equal amounts of red, green, and blue pixels. Therefore, it is optimized to deliver rich colors at all resolutions and produce the ultimate image quality and flexibility. Now, take it to even greater detail?a wider dynamic range than ever. And then, with sensor scaling, you can shoot at all the resolutions without cropping.
Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF Premium Camera Body Designed for High-End Productions
URSA Cine is designed to meet the demands of any high-end production. The camera body is evenly weighted, utilizing a strong magnesium alloy chassis coupled with a light carbon fiber polycarbonate composite skin to help you move fast on set. Soft touch backlit buttons make controls easier to read in any condition. There’s a 5-inch fold-out touchscreen for reviewing shots and getting to camera settings and a dedicated assist station on the other side of the camera with a 5-inch LCD and full camera controls. Standard Lemo and Fischer connectors let you remote control the camera while also providing power for lens motors and other accessories. You also get 12G?SDI out, 10G Ethernet, USB-C, XLR audio and more.
Expansive Flexibility with Large Format Sensors
URSA Cine has the ultimate in flexibility for aspect ratios, lenses, and delivery formats with its large format sensor. You can shoot a stunning 3:2 open-gate image where you can change your framing in the post, or shoot with the large sensor area anamorphic and deliver in a range of aspect ratios with 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 1.66, 1.8, and 2x de-squeeze factors. Plus, you can shoot in 4K, 8K, or 12K using the entire sensor without cropping, retaining the full field of view of your lenses. There are even 9K Super 35 4-perf, 3-perf, and 2-perf modes for full compatibility with classic cinema lenses. All this lets you create distinctive content in the highest quality.
Interchangeable Lens Mounts
Different projects require different lenses, which is why URSA Cine features an interchangeable lens mount. Switch between PL, LPL, EF, and Hasselblad mounts in a second. That’s right: work with PL or LPL cinema lenses, EF, or large format Hasselblad photographic lenses-you get URSA Cine compatible with the widest range of professional lenses in the most versatile camera on the market. Imagine shooting a modern high-speed lens for sharp, crisp images on one shoot and then shooting a period drama with vintage photographic lenses next. Plus, each mount has contact pins to read lens metadata for monitoring and use in post-production. With URSA Cine, you have the freedom to choose the lens you need for any kind of work.
Advanced High-Resolution Monitoring and Precise Camera Control
URSA Cine lets crews work faster on set with multiple monitoring options. The fold-out monitor has a large 5? HDR touchscreen on one end, while the other end has an external color status LCD. You can even flip it on its head and fold it back into the camera. On the right-hand side of the camera, there’s a dedicated assist station with a second 5? HDR touchscreen, so your crew can work around that camera without needing to use external monitors. In addition, a 1500-nit display?an optional removable sunshade ensures its visibility even in bright sunlight. On-screen overlays show status and record parameters, histograms, frame guides, and more. There is an even specific focus puller’s mode to help get the perfect focus.
Durable Industry Standard Connections
The wide range of industry-standard connections on URSA Cine makes it perfect for high-end cinema production. The 7-pin Lemo and 3-pin Fischer connectors fitted to the front handle allow for record start/stop and 24V power and are therefore well-suited to place onboard accessories such as focus motors. Camera power is through a standard 24V 8-pin Lemo, and there is also a rear-mounted 2-pin Lemo 12V connection for lower voltage accessories. All this means you can power accessories straight from the camera without messy external cabling. Two independent 12G-SDI outputs are included for monitoring on 2 different monitors with different overlays, plus 10G Ethernet for Blackmagic Cloud media syncing.
Blackmagic RAW Image Capture
Blackmagic RAW is a revolutionary format designed to capture and preserve the quality of the sensor data from your camera. Blackmagic RAW files contain metadata from the camera, lens data, white balance, and digital slate, as well as custom LUTs so images match on set and throughout the post. Constant quality options preserve the selected quality level, whereupon compression adjusts to the chosen quality level while maintaining a match of the scene detail. Constant bitrate encoding options give you the best possible images due to predetermining predictable file sizes. URSA Cine records directly to the included Blackmagic Media Module 8TB, so you can capture more than 4 hours of Blackmagic RAW in 12K or an enormous 20 hours in 4K.
Generation 5 Color Science
Blackmagic Generation 5 Color Science features an all-new film curve to take maximum advantage of the enormous color data from the new URSA Cine sensor. The color response is even better for more pleasing skin tones and better rendering of highly saturated colors like neon signs and car tail lights in high-contrast scenes. Generation 5 Color Science informs complex Blackmagic RAW image processing, including metadata to preserve color and dynamic range data from the sensor to be used in post-production. Compatible with all previously shot Blackmagic RAW files, Generation 5 Color Science lets you take advantage of the new film curve even with your existing work.
Built-In Optical Low-Pass Filter
High frequencies from synthetic materials like fabrics or the LED matrix in video walls cause problems for ultrasharp modern lenses and high-resolution sensors, creating interference patterns. And it minimizes moire and aliasing interference by using an optical low-pass filter. The URSA Cine comes pre-installed with a high-performance, optical low-pass filter precisely matched to the sensor. It also comprises updated IR filtering that improves far red color response, which, when combined with Blackmagic RAW processing in URSA Cine, preserves color and critical image detail for new levels of image fidelity.
Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF Camera Includes Color-Balanced ND Filters
URSA Cine is outfitted with high-quality ND filters that can help you easily eliminate the amount of light getting into the camera. These have been designed to match the colorimetry and color science of the camera to provide 2, 4, or 6 stops for you to give you much latitude under even the most appalling lighting. The IR filters are designed to equally filter both optical wavelengths and IR wavelengths to remove IR contamination of the images from which many ND filters may suffer. URSA Cine ND filters are true optical filters with a precision mechanism that quickly moves them into position when you turn the ND filter dial. Filter settings can even be presented as an ND number, stop reduction, or fraction on the LCD.
Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF Camera Full Frame Capture at Higher Frame Rates
URSA Cine is multiple cameras in one, shooting standard resolutions and frame rates in 4K, 8K, Super 35 9K, and even insanely detailed 12K. You can shoot 100 fps in 12K (12,288 x 6480, 17:9, or 120 fps in 12K 2.4:1 widescreen. Capable of capturing up to much higher frame rates: you can use 144 fps at 8192 x 5360; 180 fps at 8192 x 3408; and even capture 8K 2.4:1 widescreen at a stunning 224 fps at 8,192 x 3,408. URSA Cine features flexible frame rate and resolution options and captures incredible motion rendering with smoother edges in 8K and 4K, even in lower frame rates. Plus, with a massive 100 megapixels per frame at up to 80 fps in Blackmagic RAW, you can capture perfect stills and motion shots simultaneously.
High-Performance Internal Recording Media
URSA Cine is the first digital film camera with ultra-fast capability and Cloud Store technology built into it. The Blackmagic Media Module is fast and rugged and includes a massive 8TB of storage. Like having a Cloud Store Mini built right into your camera. High-speed storage lets you record at the highest resolutions and frame rates for hours and access all your files directly over high-speed 10G Ethernet. Or tap into the media you’ve already got with the optional Blackmagic Media Module CF, which boasts dual CFexpress slots. This module can simply be detached from the camera and loaded into a Blackmagic Media Dock for transfer to a network or Blackmagic Cloud for immediate global collaboration.
Speed Up Your Media Offload Process
The Blackmagic Media Dock expedites your post-production workflow by making it faster and easier to get on with editing and color correction. Mount up to three Blackmagic Media Modules for high-speed access to media from multiple URSA Cine cameras, all at the same time. The four high-speed 10G Ethernet ports allow up to four separate edit workstations to connect directly and are very fast, even when a lot of users are connected at the same time. Plus, the USB-C connection supports Ethernet so you can transfer media using a simple USB-C cable connected to your computer. There’s also an HDMI output that lets you see the status of your media in real-time on a TV or monitor.
Sync and Edit Media in Real-Time on DaVinci Resolve While Recording
URSA Cine records an HD proxy in H.264 in addition to the camera’s original media. It’s a small proxy file and can upload to Blackmagic Cloud in seconds, even as the camera is recording, so the media is there in the studio in real time. Being able to transfer media directly into the DaVinci Resolve media bin while editors work will revolutionize how we do our business?and has never been possible. Any editor working anywhere in the world now gets the shots. If you have several cameras, then DaVinci Resolve’s Cut page offers a new multi-source feature that shows each camera angle in a multiview. Blackmagic Cloud is a game-changer for global post-production workflows.
Connect via Mobile Data, High-Speed Wi-Fi, or Ethernet
When streaming live or uploading to Blackmagic Cloud, you can connect and use an Apple or Android phone to get an internet connection via mobile data. Now, just plug your phone into the USB-C port, and URSA Cine will configure automatically for mobile data. And it works with the latest high-speed 5G phones, as well as 4G. You can also connect through high-speed Wi-Fi or wired Ethernet using the 10G Ethernet port. Live streaming is built right into the camera, giving you the solution you’ll need for clients and post-production to be able to monitor shoots from anywhere in the world. That is truly a global post-production solution, working with Blackmagic Cloud to create amazing teams of creative people all working together.
Blackmagic URSA Cine 12K LF Camera Live Stream Directly to Your Client
Now you can live stream from film sets. URSA Cine has an integrated hardware streaming engine that supports RTMP and SRT to any of the major platforms or directly to clients. Just hook up to the internet via Ethernet or high-speed wifi, or connect a 4G or 5G phone for mobile data. The stream status, not to mention the data rate, comes up in the viewfinder and LCD as the streaming function is built into the camera. Or, if you want to send a wireless link back to Video Village or the studio, then stream to a Blackmagic ATEM Streaming Bridge, which is an H.264 decoder that turns that video stream back into video. And now everyone can keep an eye on the shoot live as it’s happening.
Industry-standard batteries and power
URSA Cine comes with a rear 8-pin Lemo power input and is powered by either 24V or 12V power supplies, so it will fit in most existing power supplies, batteries, and accessories. On the front are additional Lemo and Fischer connectors for powering other accessories, such as lens motors. URSA Cine uses a massive 250W power supply and B Mount battery plate to let you use a wide range of 24V batteries made by BEBOB, IDX, Blueshape, Core SWX, SWIT, and more. You can also choose to add the optional Blackmagic URSA Cine VLock Battery Plate or Blackmagic URSA Cine Gold Battery Plate to utilize legacy V?Mount and Gold Mount batteries.

You can also control advanced camera features like on-camera focus and exposure tools, 3D LUTs, HDR, metadata entry, timecode, Blackmagic RAW settings, and much more.
Digital Slate for Fast Metadata Entry
URSA Cine offers a digital slate to add metadata to your shot fast. You can simply swipe left or right on the built-in touchscreen to call up the digital slate. If you start and stop recording, the slate will automatically increment the take numbers so you don’t have to go ahead and input each shot individually. You can also set your reel numbers to automatically increment every time you format a card. Metadata for lenses is automatically populated or can be manually entered, with production-specific information, technical information, and more. All of this metadata is saved with the files for use in post-production when editing and color correcting with software such as DaVinci Resolve.
Bluetooth Wireless Camera Control
Indeed, the camera mounted at the end of a jib or gimbal can be controlled fully via Bluetooth with a 30-foot reach. Direct downloads to your iPad are possible using the Blackmagic Camera Control app, and there are third-party apps such as Bluetooth+ or tRigger for iOS or Android devices. And it’s all open, too for free-even letting you develop your own remote camera control and digital slate solutions using the free developer SDK along with sample code downloadable from the Blackmagic Design developer website. Imagine being able to build an app that jams a sync timecode and then triggers all of your cameras to record at once. the possibilities are endless.
