Blackmagic PYXIS 12K High End (35.6 x 23.3 mm) Size CMOS sensor and PL Mount Lens Advanced Digital Film Camera

The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K PL is an advanced digital film camera with an incredibly versatile design that lets you build the perfect camera rig for your production. This new model features a 12,288 x 8040 full frame RGBW sensor with built in optical low pass filter, 16 stops of dynamic range, dual CFexpress media slots, all in a customizable body with flexible mounting options and side plates. Blackmagic PYXIS 12K PL features a fixed PL mount that works with high quality professional cinema lenses.

Full-Frame 12K RGBW Sensor

The Blackmagic PYXIS 12K is equipped with a large-format 24 x 36mm full-frame RGBW sensor, delivering a native resolution of 12,288 x 8040. This ultra-high resolution enables true cinematic visuals with shallow depth of field and full anamorphic lens support—without cropping. With 16 stops of dynamic range and dual-native ISO up to 25,600, the PYXIS 12K delivers clean, detailed images in any lighting condition.

Versatile Aspect Ratios and Formats

Thanks to its expansive sensor, the PYXIS 12K lets you shoot in a wide range of aspect ratios without compromising quality. Capture in true 6:5 anamorphic, or switch to a Super 35 window for instant close-up framing of your open-gate footage. Whether you’re filming widescreen epics or vertical content, the sensor adapts to your workflow.

Resolution and Frame Rate Flexibility

Capture footage in 12K, 8K, 6K, or 4K with full sensor readout. Supported frame rates include:

  • Up to 40 fps at 12,288 x 8040 (3:2 open gate)
  • Up to 60 fps at 12,288 x 5112 (2.4:1)
  • Up to 112 fps at 8192 x 3408 (8K resolution)

An integrated High Frame Rate (HFR) button allows fast toggling between standard and high frame rates—no menu dive required.

High Dynamic Range and Dual-Native ISO

Shoot high dynamic range content with a wide 16-stop latitude that retains details in highlights and shadows. Ideal for mixed lighting environments, the camera supports ISOs from 200 to 3200, with a maximum ISO of 25,600. The default base ISO of 800 is optimized for general use, while the higher ISO setting maintains excellent noise performance and full dynamic range in low light.

ENG-Style Operation with Optional Pro Accessories

Convert the PYXIS 12K into a handheld, ENG-style camera using optional Pro Handle and Pro Grip accessories. The Pro Handle includes:

  • A daylight-viewable OLED HD viewfinder
  • Integrated stereo microphone
  • Zoom rocker with record start/stop control

The Pro Grip adds another zoom rocker and record control, plus a secure handgrip for mobile shooting.

Lightweight, Modular Rig Design

Constructed from aerospace-grade aluminum, the PYXIS 12K is designed for flexible rigging. It features multiple 1/4″-20 and 3/8″-16 mounting threads for use on drones, gimbals, and cranes. Included side plates allow secure attachment of SSD recorders, microphones, or handgrips. Optional rosette plates with additional threads are available for advanced rig customization.

Integrated LCD Monitor and Camera Controls

Monitor footage on the integrated 4″ HDR-compatible LCD touchscreen. With a full HD resolution and 1500 cd/m² brightness, the screen remains visible even in bright sunlight. On-screen overlays include:

  • Status and recording indicators
  • Histograms and audio levels
  • Frame guides
  • 3D LUT preview support

Physical onboard controls allow fast adjustments of ISO, white balance, and shutter. A scroll wheel enables smooth parameter changes, and three customizable buttons let you personalize your control layout. A lockout function prevents accidental changes during takes.

Post-Production-Ready File Formats

Record in Blackmagic RAW for maximum flexibility in color grading, exposure recovery, and editing. Simultaneously capture real-time H.264 proxy files for fast review and collaborative workflows. Blackmagic RAW is optimized for Apple Metal, CUDA, and OpenCL, and works natively on macOS, Windows, and Linux platforms.

Multiple Media and Recording Options

The PYXIS 12K includes:

  • Two CFexpress Type-B card slots
  • USB-C port for external SSD or flash media recording

The high-speed CFexpress slots support long recording sessions, such as over an hour in 6K on a single 256GB card. USB-C provides additional flexibility for higher capacity media.

Blackmagic Cloud Integration for Remote Collaboration

Built for real-time media sharing, the PYXIS 12K supports automatic uploading of proxy files to Blackmagic Cloud. This allows remote editors to begin working on footage immediately ideal for live event, news, and collaborative post-production workflows.

Integrated Live Streaming Support

Stream directly from the camera using SRT and RTMP protocols. Broadcast your footage to YouTube, Facebook, X, or other supported platforms without additional hardware. For internal studio transmission, pair with an ATEM Streaming Bridge for seamless wireless streaming to control rooms.

Advanced Connectivity Options

The PYXIS 12K is equipped with a comprehensive set of I/O ports for professional workflows:
